Young, Injured... Approved!!

Happy New Year to all from the Gusto Team!

We are wasting no time getting back to work, and have already helped multiple customers drive away in some new wheels in 2026.

In this week’s customer story, we have a young man from Perth who suffered a big setback soon after starting a new job.

This could have delayed his new car by months, but our brokers saw to it than he was approved without delay.

Customer of the Week!

Imagine being 20 years old, buzzing with excitement to start a new job and buy your very first car.

Then, after just one day on the job, you break a bone in your hand!

Suddenly, the income on your payslip drops to zero for weeks, even though you technically have a job.

This is the difficult situation our customer found themselves in.

After recovering, the customer applied for a loan with only 3 weeks of income.

Usually, this isn't enough time to establish a reliable track record for a lender.

There was a high risk that a lender could look at the gap in pay, miscalculate the annual earnings, and issue an automatic rejection.

Our brokers stepped in immediately. We knew that a standard application wouldn’t tell the full story.

By speaking directly to the lender, we provided the necessary context to ensure the customer’s earnings were calculated correctly.

Accounting for the injury, not a lack of employment.

That one conversation made the difference between a rejection and an approval.

The loan was settled just before the holidays.

Giving our customer a much needed break after such a setback!

Another great job from the team, who pursued a speedy outcome without compromise.

How Do I Prove My Income?

The vast majority of applications we process require 2 payslips to prove your income.

A lender has no problem relying on these when the Year-to-Date earnings figure is consistent with the income you have declared.

However, as we have seen in this week’s customer story, there are times when this will not be accurate enough.

So what are the alternatives?

Read on for more information on how to prove your income for a smooth assessment of your car loan application.

If you are married or living with a partner, you have options for how you present your finances to a lender. Each lender has a different policy for how they assess "partner income" and whether they include it in your loan affordability assessment. Most people assume their only option is a Joint Application, but that creates a new set of challenges (especially if your partner's credit score is lower). In this week’s customer story, we look at how one customer leveraged her household income to...

It amazes us every day how frequently lenders misinterpret the information provided to them. Unless there is someone to intervene and correct their assumptions, the result is often an unfair rejection. And its not just lenders, but "professionals" who also overlook things. This week’s customer story kicks off in the office of a dealership trying, and failing, to obtain finance for a car our customer wanted. A deal was possible; they just didn’t know how to identify the incorrect assumption...
